The following are some of the many shipwreck drawings prepared by Valerie since 1988. Her technique was developed out of her years in the architectural profession where recording the floor plans of existing buildings was necessary as the basis for  developing remodeling plans.
One of the first people in the Great Lakes to employ this relatively quick, yet accurate method to document an underwater site, Valerie's drawings began to be referred to as "reconnaissance site survey drawings"  by resource manager Ken Vrana.  Valerie has been invited to join several projects to utilize this recording method. In Lake Michigan she joined a team experimenting with video mosaic imaging on The Alva Bradley to compare her manual  techniques to a technological method. In Florida, her drawing of the Germania formed the base drawing for further archaeological documentation. In Lake Huron she joined an SOS team  to teach fellow divers these survey methods on the wreck of the Jay Gould.  Today many shipwreck divers utilize these methods to record the layout and details of wreck sites. Often the drawings help divers new to a site orient themselves to the wreck.

The drawing of the Hennepin was completed by artist Robert Doornbos working in conjunction with Valerie to accurately depict the site conditions.
